Iona Fraser

Thinking differently about fungi - the 2 way benefits of neurodivergence in the mycological community.

Iona is a teaching field mycologist of around 15 years. She undertakes survey work and volunteers identifying toxic species for medical emergencies - but her passion has always been engaging and sharing skills to empower and encourage others - with a particular interest in the relationship between Neurodivergence and field mycology, and the benefits of acknowledging and nurturing that. Whether this is through her role as co-founder of Petrichor Ecology (through face to face teaching, microscopy residentials, supporting people online, and public speaking), or in her role as council member and trustee for the British Mycological Society - She passionately believes that field mycology is a powerful tool for impacting mental health - and that good field mycologists learn through community support, and come from all sorts of backgrounds! Most of all though, she is just a plain old mycogeek - to be found as aften as possible up to her eyeballs in Russula keys or creatures with piggybacking fungi!
