Spreading Spores

Pete trained as a water resource & environmental engineer, but then discovered his love for mushrooms and myco-engineering. Researchgate became his new friend where from he started sharing random information and scientific findings via his Spreading Spores alias. Pete got quite deep into the mycological literature (applied and non-applied) particularly whilst working in the medicinal mushroom industry. Currently, Pete is conducting doctoral research in fungal mycelium materials at the University of Helsinki and is an avid re-greener of urban environments, helping co-found TaiMet ry - a non-profit organisation that establishes high-value forest gardens for urban daycares and grey spaces - bringing natural processes of life and decay back to urban environments most in need, where applying fungi and deadwood is key. In his spare time, Pete enjoys jamming with pipes, drums and strings as well as finding and fixing musical instruments from second-hand stores and recycling centres.
