Michael Kennard

Sound of the underground

Michael Kennard is a soil health advocate, composting expert and regenerative farmer, and the founder of Compost Club and BioLife Compost.

For the past decade, Michael has been exploring the living world beneath our feet, with a particular fascination for the role of fungi, microbes and compost in creating healthy soils and resilient ecosystems.

Through Compost Club and his work with Regenerative Soils, Michael has helped farmers, growers, landowners and communities understand soil biology and develop practical approaches to composting and soil regeneration.

Michael has spent the last year helping to develop a regenerative community farm bringing together market gardening, agroforestry, livestock, composting, biochar and rewilding.

He is a Soil Association Ambassador and experienced educator, delivering workshops and talks on soil health, composting and the soil food web at events including Groundswell, Great Dixter and Plumpton College.

Michael's work is rooted in a simple idea: that when we begin to understand soil as a living ecosystem, rather than simply a growing medium, we can start to work with nature in a fundamentally different way.
