Mikey (The Mushroom Maker) is a sculptor and prop maker who has spent the past eight years creating large-scale props and immersive environments, working primarily in carved polystyrene. Away from work, he enjoys finding unusual ways to bring those same techniques into the festival world. What began as a single oversized Liberty cap, made simply out of curiosity, quickly became something people connected with. Since then, each mushroom staff has been hand carved as a completely individual piece, inspired by the endless variety found in real fungi. Designed to be lightweight, durable and slightly flexible, they’re made to be carried as festival totems, walking staffs, or simply something to move and dance with. Their different shapes, curves and balance mean that every one has its own unique feel in the hand, and people often find themselves drawn to one in particular. Mikey has been part of the UK psychedelic festival community for over a decade, and his work has recently spread through word of mouth, with many people recognising the mushrooms long before they recognise the maker.
We’re excited to welcome the following incredible contributors to this year’s All Things Fungi Festival.
