Guts

DJ set

Guts has always preferred the shadows to the spotlight.

Producing for himself or others, with machines or instruments, his vision and guiding principle are always to put music first.

But Guts has another career: that of a compulsive record digger who was one day ensnared by dusty crates of records and has never escaped.

Even worse! Every passing day leads him to explore them ever more deeply! Five volumes of the “Beach Diggin’” compilations allowed him to share his passion with his audience, before it overflowed the grooves and spilled onto the dance floor. Under the danceable banner of the four volumes of “Straight From The Decks,” Guts shared the best tracks from his DJ sets. This all-consuming passion is only fueled by his many travels.

Wherever he is in the world, Guts never counts the hours he spends on his knees, getting his hands dirty. It is through visits to Africa and South America that he has discovered, and continues to discover, entire swathes of music that have remained undiscovered, gems from remote regions or rarely mentioned islands.

Jewels, alas, carved from a tragic history: that of slavery, which nevertheless made communication possible between these two parts of the world separated by the ocean. In the clash of chains, they blended their cultures through the assiduous practice of the universal language of music.

Played by the creators, modernized and perpetuated by their descendants, this musical heritage is continually explored by Guts, who today makes it the backbone of his DJ sets. Colombia, South Africa, Suriname, the Antilles, Nigeria, Réunion, Angola; From the moment the needle touches the first record, the journey never stops, entering a movement of love and humanity, swept by rhythmic storms and moments of grace that suspend time.

Guts doesn't create barriers. Between himself and the dance floor, he leaves the doors wide open, facilitating exchange so that everything and everyone can communicate.
