Basil’s Fungi Farm is a mushroom farm based in the centre of Hastings. We pride ourselves on the quality of our mushrooms; their flavour is unrivalled and they're simply beautiful (it could be said we’re biased, but it’s still true!).
We supply chefs, restaurants, and specialist wholesalers across East Sussex, as well as farm shops and greengrocers. You can find us at local markets too, where we sell fresh mushrooms and our Grow Kits - they’re super easy to use, make the perfect present, and give you the joy of growing mushrooms at home.
We pride ourselves on growing everything from scratch. Starting from Petri dishes in the lab, we produce our own grain spawn and substrates so we know we’re growing the healthiest mycelium possible. When the mycelium is ready, it’s given the perfect conditions to flourish in our fruiting room next door, and if all goes to plan, two weeks later we have a beautiful crop of mushrooms!
We're super enthused to be working with All Things Fungi this year, supplying native mushrooms to their café. We're offering a selection of native Oyster mushrooms and Velvet Shank - a relative to enoki that we found growing in Hastings. When we're not busy shaking substrate, we love to be in the lab cloning wild mushrooms and testing them in our grow room; there’s nothing more exciting than fruiting something we’ve foraged.
